History of Sidney Club

Altrusa Club of Sidney, Ohio was organized on Saturday evening, June 10, 1944, following a dinner held at the Slagle Tea Room. Governor of the Fourth District (under whose jurisdiction the new Club fell), Ruth Kramer (of Marion, Ohio), served as the acting official during the pre-organization during the pre-organization session.

The official Charter Party was held on September 21, 1944 at the Hotel Wagner and the Altrusa Club of Sidney, Ohio became part of Altrusa International. Program Coordinator for the International Organization, Emma B. Christy made a formal presentation of the Charter to the first President of Sidney Club, Ruth Emmons. District Governor, Ruth Kramer officiated at the Initiation Ceremony for the formal induction of seventeen Charter Members all of which have passed away.

Charter Members: Rosemary Amann, Catherine Bland, Mildred Cronley, Ruth Deishley, Dorothy Duncan, Catherine Elsner, Ruth Emmons, Miriam Ginn, Madellyn Greiner, Irene Jarfas, Mary Lauterbur, Edith Masteller, Bess Miller, Viola Minniear, Dorothy Morrison, Virginia Oldham, and Lois Williamson.
